In a landmark initiative aimed at empowering women and bridging the gender gap in technology, SAWIT (South Asia Women in Tech) has joined forces with GUVI, an ed-tech start up incubated by IIT Madras, to launch a transformative program called SAWIT.

IDC India proudly supports this transformative initiative, which is set to commence on September 21, 2024, aiming to train at least five lakh women in artificial intelligence (AI) skills.

Tackling the Female Workforce Participation Challenge

India’s female workforce participation rate currently stands at a concerning 24%, reflecting a significant gender disparity in the labor market.

This gap not only restricts the economic potential of women but also impedes the nation’s overall growth. SAWIT.ai recognizes the critical need to address this issue and has launched the ‘Generative AI Learning Challenge,’ a women-exclusive initiative designed to enhance the employability of the female workforce through specialized AI training.

A spokesperson for SAWIT highlighted the urgency of this initiative, stating, “With India’s female workforce participation rate at a mere 24 percent, we believe there is an urgent need to bridge the gender gap and tap into the immense economic potential that women represent. By equipping women with AI skills, the program aims to empower them for career advancement and economic independence.”

A Three-Phase Journey to AI Mastery

SAWIT.ai’s program is meticulously structured into three progressive phases, each aimed at building participants’ expertise and confidence in AI:

  1. AI Learnathon (September 2024): The journey begins with an intensive AI Learnathon, providing participants with hands-on experience in generative AI.This phase focuses on imparting foundational skills necessary for understanding and applying AI across various domains.
  2. Hackathon (October 2024): Following the Learnathon, participants will test their skills in a dynamic hackathon, where they will be challenged to create innovative applications using generative AI. This phase fosters creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration among participants.
  3. SAWiT.AI Festival (November 2024): The program will culminate in the SAWiT.AI Festival, a celebration of generative AI innovation. This event will recognize exceptional participants and partners, showcasing the vast potential of women in AI and encouraging continued engagement in the field.

A Vision for a More Inclusive Tech Industry

SAWIT’s vision extends beyond AI training, aiming to create a supportive ecosystem for one million women aspiring to build careers in technology. This community offers a rich array of resources, including networking opportunities, mentorship, entrepreneurship support, skill development, and recruitment pathways.

As the world continues to embrace the transformative power of AI, it is crucial to ensure that women are at the forefront of this evolution. SAWIT.ai’s initiative to train five lakh women in AI is a major stride toward achieving gender parity in the tech industry.

By empowering women with the tools and knowledge to excel in AI, SAWIT.ai is not only addressing the female workforce participation crisis but also unlocking tremendous economic potential.

IDC India is honored to support this initiative, recognizing that SAWIT.ai is more than just a training program — it is a movement toward a more inclusive and equitable future in technology. Together, we can ensure that women are empowered to lead in the AI-driven world of tomorrow.
